News from NGC, INC. International Affiliates

Serving as International Affiliates liaison to NGC, INC. President has been until now a new learning experience. As distant observer of our Latin American affiliates, I’ve been impressed by the array of activities providing community service, images of remarkable Flower Shows and the educational opportunities offered to Garden Club members. Due to the immense distances and current world economical crisis, it is only a few of our affiliate members that come in representation of a greater group; those constantly working, sustaining and maintaining our Garden Club movement in hundreds of Clubs geographically extended from Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America.

The organization Flower Show School Course I in Sao Paulo, Brazil last June 2009, is an example of the joint efforts of our Affiliates in offering NGC, INC. Schools. Present during the organization and the event was Sandy Mangels National IA Chairman of the Flower Show Schools in Brazil. Mrs. Marie Kaufmann, President of the Clube Paulista de Jardinagem of Sao Paulo, generously offered her home for a three day event of FSS Course I, attended by thirty seven Garden Club ladies; 20 from Brazil, twelve from Uruguay and seven from Argentina. The instructors were Delia Astini and Elsa Galizzi both from the Argentina Garden Club.

Sylvia Wray, IAFSS Chairman, reported the event on articles published in the magazine “Naturalmente Argentina” and in the “International FSS Bulletin”. Using a garden related vocabulary, she clearly describes the picture of these International Affiliate members.

“Through the NGC, INC. Schools and because of our passion for gardening and floral design; our countries have united in harmony, planting challenges and cultivating unique friendships, that will be frequently irrigated with enthusiasm and joyfulness.”
